Sport mirrors location

Post by Joe Kriston »

Seems we had a thread here a while back on where to mount your sport mirrors, but I can't find it...I'm replacing my camper mirrors with them and I'm hoping the base of the new sport mirrors will cover the old bottom mounting holes for the camper mirrors...Also,what's the best mounting screws that won't strip out or work their way loose?...Thanks...

Hey Joe,

I bought a set a long time ago and sent Keith the illustration with the dimensions. I know he scanned them here somewhere but I can't find them either. You may want to PM him, he'll know where they are located.

If he can't find them, I'll look around and get them to you. I welded and skim coated the bottom holes. The mirror pretty much covers those up anyway.

Thanks,Lee...and Keith...Hey I went out and 'dry-fitted' them according to those dimensions, and it seems like the mirrors end up being awful close to the window(like almost rubbing it) and partially ride the bend on the upper door panel where it goes from vertical to horizontal(Measuring an 1 1/4" from the upper door edge) :hmm: ...I flipflopped the mirrors to make sure that wasn't the cause :?

Hi Joe,

I just went and snapped these. Mine pretty much hit the middle of the slope. Mines a 68, don't know if that makes a difference. Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the pics,Lee....Yours look like they're much further away from the window than the diagram...I suppose there's no law that says you have to put them acc. to the diagram, but I figured the factory knew the best placement of them...Your placement would cover up the camper mirror holes...I'll have to ponder this before I get the drill out :hmm:...

:? I used that diagram to install the mirrors. Don't know what to tell ya Joe. I measured down from the transition.

This may be a bit off topic but does any one have a diagram for the FORD hood letters for a 67-72?

Lee,I think you got it right....I was looking at a pic of my old truck, and I know that mirror was on it since new,or at least if they replaced it,they used the same screw holes...It looks like the 1 1/4" measurement is from the transition rather than from the window...

And f26,yes it is off-topic,but since I need to know the answer to your question myself,I'll let you slide this time 8) ...

The '67-'69 hood letters are smaller and styled differently vs. the '70-'72. The locating pins for each style are different too, so they're not interchangeable. I've never actually seen a diagram in any factory publication which gives hole location measurements, but since this question has come up a time or two, I've been thinking about possibly creating one.
