Canadian steel?
New guy here- I just picked up a 69 ranger 302 c with auto. Manuf. in Canada. This truck has only a patina of rust with no deep or through rust anywhere! I was talking to a Canadian truck driver / car guy who smiled and said that he remembers the Canada vehicles being made with thicker steel and specially rust proofed? I'm tickled to have a 37 year old truck in such great shape but thought I'd pass this legend? around. Be curious to see if anybody else has heard this.

re: Canadian steel?
I highly doubt the trucks have thicker steel. However, rustproofing is more common in the colder regions rather than Florida. Areas you cannot see, such as inside the doors, under the inner fenders, inside the core support, undeneath the bed, in the tailgate can be rust proofed. It's nothing like undercoat, it is a thick amber colored gel like substance that never ever ever dries. Water gas oil salt, nothing can break through. Its really bad when it get it on your hands because it's impossible to wash off. You truck was probibly rust proofed if it came from a salty region but has only surface rust. I had my 04 mustang rust proofed the day after I buoght it. Its woth 100 bucks to never worry about seeing holes in your car.

That must be it. There are traces of the bubbly, gloppy amber coating you mentioned. The stuff must work. Any idea of this can be redone and by whom? Thanks for any reply.

Any good detail shop, linex, rihno lining do under coating. Or you can do it your self, MESSY.

Hmmm...mine is Canadian built as well but there was no undercoating applied. Spent it's life in North Carolina. Would have to get the micrometer out and start taking measurements to see if there was any truth to the metal thickness being different compared to US built. My instincts say no.

Thanks for the help. Could have them do the bed and the underside same time. Cool.

re: Canadian steel?
Hey 'rjewkes, I'm all for simple could you elaborate on pro15? Last thing I worked on was a 70 bug 15 years ago and am re-learning. Is this a self applied coating? avail. at local parts shop? I'd like to keep the ranger as good as it is for another 30 and would prefer doing the work myself. Any tips etc. appreciated. Thanks.

re: Canadian steel?
My 71 was produced in Canada but was sold in Pennsylvania and it has something thick applied on the underside. I Thought the old man who owned it since new in 71 put grease or something on it!
It is very sticky. Like FoMoCo said, it never dried. I am dreading the day I start to try to remove it all ![Crying ](./images/smilies/icon_cry.gif)

Thanks again 'rjewkes. Neat to find so many people who know so much more about f series than I do.
