disc brake conversion

Post by theskytoucher »

I have decided to do a disc brake conversion on the front of my truck. I have already acquired the spindles, backing plate, and the rotors off of a 75-79 truck.(all for free :D ) i know that i have to get the i-beams from the same year of truck still, and through reading the tutorial on the subject i realized that the tie rod taper is different. So my question is, is the taper on the tie-rod the only difference in the steering or are there other differences in the steering linkages? Also what do i need to do to my brake lines to get this to work?

The steering linkage and Pitman arm changed in mid-'71. See the following page for more details:

In other words, if your truck was manufactured before mid-71, it's got the older-style Pitman arm and steering linkage, which won't fit the later style spindles, as you've found out. You'll have to use the later steering linkage, including the Pitman arm.
