ORIGINAL TIRE SIZE FOR A F-100?

Post by 71 LONG BED »

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE STOCK TIRE SIZE ON A F-100 WAS? I THINK IT WAS A G-78-15, OR SOMETHING. WHAT SIZE COULD I CROSS REFERENCE IT TO, SINCE THEY DON'T SIZE 'EM LIKE THAT ANYMORE. THANKS FOR ANY INFO ANYONE CAN GIVE ME. :hmm:

the stock tire size should be 215/75/R15

Alpha Numeric: G78-15

The "size designation" is a combination of one letter and four numbers and is a three-part code. The letter denotes the sidewall-to-sidewall width of the tire; the two numbers grouped with the letter refer to the height-to-width ratio; and the numbers following the dash indicate in inches the diameter of the wheel rim the tire will fit. Therefore, the above tire is "G" in width, and the sidewall height is 78% of the width. It is designed to be mounted on a 15" wheel.

i got this off a website here http://www.musclecarclub.com/library/tech/tires.shtml

scroll down that link there is a conversion chart.

Sorry f26yrn04558-72, thanks to you to! I just want to replace the HUGE tires (that rub...) with something a little more "2wheel drive" looking. I figured I would start with the stock size.

My Truck has 215/75/15's on it. They are actually getting kind of hard to find. It had 235's on it when I bought it, they are really too wide for the stock wheels I thought it looked a little silly, but lots of folks use them because it is a common size. 225/70 is also pretty close in overall diameter.

Thanks guys, I still have my eyes open for a good used set. My buddy owns a garage and is a demo derby guy, so he sees alot of good tires come his way. I'm still waiting though...
