Western Mirrors

I won a set of western mirrors off eBay and they're in decent condition except all the hardware is junk. I'm going to replace it all, but was hoping someone has a nice photo of what it should all look like in good condition.

Also, will a nut splitter work on an acorn nut? I'd rather just split the cruddy nuts off rather than potentially damage the mirrors.

I don't think I'd want to use a nut splitter on those acorn nuts...is there any reason why you can't just carefully spin 'em off? I don't think you'll damage anything. Here's a picture of an NOS set that recently sold on Ebay:

A week or so ago there was someone on E-bay selling an NOS set of these SwingLoc mirrors, and in the pictures in his listing I could see that the original instructions and diagrams were still there. I sent him an e-mail begging him to scan these for me, to post to the site. He didn't have a scanner, but was able to get photocopies....and as a matter of fact they literally JUST arrived in the mail today! I'll get these scanned (and cleaned up a bit) and will post them sometime this evening (hopefully).

Like I mentioned, these are scans of photocopies, so they're not the absolute best, but I still think they turned out pretty good.

When I do my next website update I'll post these pics in the Forum Reference Photo Gallery, and then whenever I can actually put together the mirror-mounting tutorial like I've been planning, they'll also be posted there.

Awesome. Geez, those NOS mirrors look great. Please told me they sold for more than $70.

The nuts, incidentally, are all completely and utterly frozen. Broke two of the studs or bolts trying.

I have the Camper Special mirrors that are going on my truck. Of course, all the acorn nuts are rusty. I'm looking to replace them all with stainless. It looks as though a 5/16 x 18 acorn head cap screw (see sheet 1 "Bolt 4") is used for connections between the brackets and mirror heads.

I've done some poking around the internet and gave Fastenal a call, but I can't seem to locate these fasteners. I haven't tried Ford yet...

One idea is to use two acorn nuts and cut-down stainless steel threaded rod.

Has anyone found a source for these seemingly unique fasteners?

Roman: I took down all those measurements and have them jotted down on a notepad around here somewhere. These are to be posted on the mirror-mounting tutorial, whenever I can find the time to get it constructed. I'll try to dig that out from under the pile of other notes on my desk and post them.

Hey shanmeg1 to the site! Let us know how you make out with the mirrors. I just took a pair off my truck. I'm not sure if I want to restore or stay with the pillar wink mirror I am using now. It's good to see someone else from Jersey on here, not many of us. I am up in the north west corner. Where are you?
