steering swap question/ 2 or 3 inches
with help from fordification I did a power steering swap while my truck('72 F-350) was being painted. The column was already painted when I decided to do this and didn't want to paint the other. It's still in the shop and I haven't driven it on the road so I dont know if everything is right. The setup came off a '72 f-250 automatic on column. mine is straight drive on floor. Instead of putting the automatic column in I just swapped the steering shaft. I want to know if this is right or wrong? It bolted up nicely. One thing I noticed is the shaft from the automatic column was three inches shorter than my manuel shaft. Everything I read in my research said the PS shaft should be two inches shorter not three. which is right?

Yep, you can install the shorter power-steering shaft in a 4-spd column, since the column housing is already the correct length. Take a look down at the bottom of this page:

I took some exact meaurements of all the column components a while back but I can't find them right now, but if I recall correctly the difference should be closer to 2 inches.
