Hey I too have a loonie size rust spot that I have sanded down to the metal. I have the correct touch up paint too. So I should tape off the area to be painted, how far beyond do I prime and paint?
If I tape off say a 5 inch square won't it really stand out. I have never attempted any repair like this before. Should I fill in the area with rust inhibiter? can you buy just a small amount?
Let me know what you guys think
thanks

re: rust spot paint
On the part that is bare metal just "dust" in some good primer. Overlap the primer onto the original paint a little. Dont go crazy with the primer!
I dont even bother to tape it off when Im just covering a bare metal spot with the primer.
With your touch up paint, pick the area that you'll want to cover with the new paint and tape that off to avoid overspray. I like to tape off to a seam or a bend to minimize the difference youll get with the new paint agaist the old. If you do get a tape line that youd like to get rid of, try 600 or 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper to blend it down AFTER it is completely dry - like after two weeks or so. Just a suggestion

I think there a place that you can send your VIN code in and they will mix you up some factory colors in a can for around $15. Then send it off to your house. You may be able to find that on the internet, or maybe on this sight.
