A new radiator and patching up carb leaks and my 72 F250 is on the road. The truck came with 5 245/75R16 tires, but the spare is not mounted. The rims on the truck have 8 lugs and are marked 16x6-K Firestone.
The tires will need to be replaced soon and I'm considering getting the same size in a BFGoodrich Commercial TA 245/75/16E.
I've started looking for stock rims at the local salvage yards, but I need help with identifying matching rims as the counter staff is usually not very helpful. I gather that both Dodge and Ford rims can be found. The first rim I found had a Chrysler logo and looked correct to me. I was able to get it to bolt on the rear, but the hole was too tight to push on easily. Desperate for a spare I was going to grind on it some to open it up. Sadly I brought it to a local tire shop for mounting and they ended up giving it to someone else. For a makedo the tire shop let me take a mounted tire with a different backspacing. I'm left looking for the right size rim.
Some questions:
1) What should I ask for at the salvage yard counter?
2) How do I make the key measurements to identify a match?
Wheel diameter, Lug ring diameter, hole diameter and width
3) Am I likely to find Mopar rims that are a better fit? The salvage yard has more of the same Chrysler rims, but no matching Ford rims.
4) I'm happy with stock looking skinny tires. Will rim and tire selection be better if I switch out all 4 rims when I buy new tires? What rim should I switch to?
