Special Order Data Plate Example

Post by sdranch71 »

Here's an example of a 6 digit DSO special order data plate, from a Chrome Yellow 67 F250 I found at a salvage yard:

Image

The first two digits under DSO are the same as a regular order and indicate the district sales office, in this case 42 (Fargo, ND). The remaining 4 digits are the special order number. The only special non-regular production part on this truck I could see was a 'Throttle' control knob on the dashboard. Since it's Chrome Yellow, I'm guessing it may have been ordered for a road department where they needed a way to keep the RPM up when parked. It was also radio delete, but alas the plate was broken. But, I did snag the throttle knob and cable :D

Cool! So now you have a cruise control, huh? ;) Good score. Can you post a pic of the knob/handle area, just for the visual?

Hey , sdranch71, have you heard when they are going to have the auction at the old Agers yard in Belle Fourche? One of the junk yards from Rapid, I think Angel Brothers, had bought them out and closed it up. The last time I was in there they must have had at least 30 67-72 pickups.

Is that the yard just off of West US212 a couple of miles out? If so, it's owned by B&B in Rapid City. I haven't heard about an auction, but I did hear a few months ago the crusher was working overtime, so I took a ride to check it out in mid-October and there were still a lot of vehicles there. It was on a weekday, so the yard was closed - it has been open but only on Saturday AM's. I could see one 72 pickup through the fence. This spring RC ran an inventory for me and there were only 3 67-72's left in BF. This Chrome Yellow one above showed up this spring at B&B in RC. In addition to the throttle cable, I got 2 rust free inner and outer front fenders off of it. BTW, Angel Bros is out of the salvage business totally. I know they sold off some of their cars to other yards; maybe that was the auction you heard about.

I didn't take a picture of the dash, but I will take one of the throttle cable and knob. It was on the right, third hole inboard (between the choke and the steering column).

I was in Belle visiting family back in July and went to the Junk yard to find it closed. I called the number on the fence, B and B it was, you're right. Anyway they said nothing about being open on Saturdays, just told me they would be having an auction. It was a few years ago, when Agers still had it that I saw all the trucks out there. I also went to that small yard in Spearfish but all their 67-72 trucks were already picked over.
Too bad all those trucks got crushed, they were mostly complete 10 years ago.

Here's the throttle cable knob & bezel from the special order 67 F250:

I'll check with B&B and see what's going on with the BF yard. It has been a while since I've been there on a Saturday; maybe they did close it.
