Window regulator differences

Post by Whoaaanelly »

Hi, First post here. Great site Keith!

I just purchased a 67 F100 and it is missing the crank shaft and handle on the drivers side window regulator. I see on NPD and LMC that they sell the 68-72, but not the 67 regulator. LMC is nice enough to say I can use the 68-72 as long as I use the 68-72 handles. I see a post where someone here says they compared a 67 to 70 regulator and saw no differences, but could it be it's as minor a difference as to the number of splines on the shaft? I don't want to have to have one window crank that looks different. Anybody have an answer?

A while back I set a '67 regulator next to a '68 and a '70, and compared them very very closely...I could see absolutely NO difference between them. I then tried swapping the '67 regulator handle with the later models (and vice-versa) and found it was a perfect fit.

I too have heard folks say that the '67 regulators are different, but the two '67s that I've parted out had identical pieces as the '68-up trucks.

Thanks Keith,

I don't have a lot to go from other than the repop companies, which indicate there is a difference. I can only guess from their claim to need the 68-72 handle that the difference is only in the shaft. Either length or the number of splines. I guess I could order the regulator if nobody has a 67 regulator used and get the handle after I try the handle I have (from the passenger side) on the new one. It seems to me if you tried things both ways it should be OK. Strange indeed.

Here are a couple pictures I took when I was putting together the How to Completely Disassemble a Door tutorial:

I also took a couple pictures of the '67 handle on the '68 regulator, to show it fits perfectly, but the flash burned out the pics and they didn't turn out. However, you can pretty much see here that the two regulator shafts are identical in size and spline count.

while the handles depth is different even the 73-79 and maybe even an eighty something or so are also identical.

No, the '73 up regulators are completely different.

While I did read once where someone adapted the later regulators to fit an early truck, it involved some cutting and welding.

Again, Thanks for the replies. I threw caution to the wind and placed an order for a 68-72 regulator and a 67 window crank. I'll let everyone know what the verdict is when I get it all.
