Aluminum Side Mouldings ...

Post by krogge »

I've got a '72 F100 XLT. I want to start working on the side mouldings (mine are the wide ones with the wood-look strip on them). Got two questions:

:?
1. How do you get them off without trashing them even worse?
2. Are there any good instruction sites as to how to get the little dents and dings out of the aluminum?
:?

Thanks a bunch in advance ...

Ken.

All the trim pieces have clips on each end which must be unbolted from the back side, whereas the trim just snaps onto the middle clips.

Here's a very basic trim-straightening tutorial:

...and we have a tutorial here on this site detailing the polishing methods:

Anybody know where to get the woodgrain? Same for the tailgate?

Thanks guys, although kind of worrisome re: the part that goes "unbolted from the back side". How I can get to the ones by the front headlights is beyond me at the moment!!

Thanks again for your time...

i just went out and looked at both my trucks. if you lay on the ground and reach up with a socket and rachet you can get at it from there. unless your talking about the grill bolts then you just need several extensions to get to those.
