Q about tie-down brackets

Post by N7HO »

Ok, my '71 Camper Special has these tie-down brackets mounted to the sides of the bed. I have not seen or heard anything about these before. Were these a factory option or someone's (very good) handiwork? They look like they belong, and fit quite well.

These lights are of course aftermarket that I put on. Originals are cracked and broken but fit on perfectly.

Forgive me if I'm missing the obvious here, but I'm curious about these.

I've never seen anything like those before, they definitely aren't factory. Looks like a previous owner decided to fab something up to keep from having to drill obvious holes in the bedside.

I've seen tie-downs between the cab and bed but nothing like that on your marker lights, that's custom man! Neither are factory, in fact there were no factory tie-downs.

Ok, well I guess someone was a really good craftsman. Like I said, they fit really well, and look like they belong. The rear ones especially. The original marker lights covered the bolts. There are 4 voids in the backside of the original marker lenses, and the bolts line up with these perfectly. The only modification to the bed is the bolt holes. I use these tie-downs all the time, very handy.

There's also an aftermarket second fuel tank hidden between the bed side and the frame. The filler neck is tucked away in the wheel well just in front of the back tire.

So I guess my truck is a little unique. 8)

I'm not an expert, but I believe those are for a large camper/shell. I know nothing of the origin, but I think I've seen them before.

I have seen this type of setup before. They are aftermarket for tying down a camper. As stated before the brackets are not OEM. If you do any hauling, they make excellent tie down points. The rear brackets are unique and worth copying.
