New Dashpad Installed

Post by studdmstr »

I installed my new (old) dashpad last weekend. The original one was faded, cracked and brittle from the years of California sun. The new one looks much better. It wasn't hard, just took some patience and time.

Hey,you got one of those floormats with the lightning bolt on the hump...Cool....Studdmaster,what all did you have to remove to get to all the bolts...It looks like the gauge bezel...what about the speaker/radio...and the glove box liner?...Also,do you have to put any silicone or stickem down first?....From the clean looks of the metal underneath the pad, probably not...I just don't want mine to squeak or make strange noises after I replace it....

Hey Joe you're going to have to remove the gauge bezel, stereo/radio underdash speaker and glove box liner to get to all the bolts. It would also be helpful to grow another joint in your fingers . There are 14 bolts you are going to have to remove. Once you get the old dash pad off you will probably need to vacuum and clean off the dirt, leaves, junk and stuff from the metal dash. I wouldn't use any silicone or stickem underneath the dashpad because the bottom of the pad is pretty soft. You're not going to have to worry about squeaks or noises after you see how it's attached. Good luck with your install....its not hard, just take your time and don't over tighten the bolts when you reinstall them.

Nope it's not a new pad. I scored the pad off of Ebay for about $100. Wish I could have found one for about $20 like TheEskimo though.

Yup, same as LMC. I have a bid in on eBay for a slightly dinged one, and the guy also has some other parts I want. I'll see how it goes. What I really need is a grille for a 1970. I wish I knew where the truck in the weeds in the Fordification pic was..I want the grille!
