dome light door switch bracket

dome light door switch bracket
What is the measurements for the bracket I mean how far out from the pillar does it need to be for it to contact the door properly. thanks for any help.
I've always been crazy but it keeps me from going insane.

thanks. I have the metal to make them and everything. I just didn't know how far I needed them to stick out.
