Buckets

Post by blue68 »

A junkyard down the street has an old truck with factory buckets, but they are physically demolished, all except for the actual metal frames and springs. They can be re-covered and re-stuffed, but do you guys really think that a pair of demolished original buckets are worth a asking price of $75.00? They're hard to find from what I hear. I don't really need them , but I'd like to have them as spares when I rip my bench up one day.

If they are original buckets, then they're easy to rebuild, since they're nothing more than vintage Mustang seats with different mounting brackets. There are plenty of Mustang parts houses which can supply you with the correct foam, springs and upholstery. Actually, the brackets themselves are more important than the seats, since the seats are fairly common. The brackets themselves are definitely worth the $75. Since you'd probably have to rebuild any junkyard Mustang seats anyway though, might as well pick them up, if you've got a place to store them until they're needed.

I would pay that JUST for the rails. Buckets in our trucks were very rare. I just purchased some from a member here for $275 and the condition of the seats didn't matter. The rails are the key here, you could mount any new kind of seat to them with little modification. The seats could restored easly with new foams and a upholstery rebuild kit which are reasonably priced.GO 4 IT.

Blue68,
Check to see if they have another set up there. 75 bucks for the brackets is right up my alley. I am getting ready to put a couple of newer buckets in my blue 68 ford and would love to locate just such a deal. Greenville, SC probably isn't to far from that junk yard I suppose.

Bama boy, sorry but this is the only set they have. They only have a total of four old trucks, and this is the only one with buckets. I bought them today, and they're in my attic. One day when I redo my interior, I'll go back with them.
