i am re-doing a trailer and the frame is rusted on the surface, after i sand and gind it off- do i apply the por-15 then primer then paint or, por-15 then the paint?

POR-15 cannot protect metal it's not touching. It needs to be on bare or slightly-rusted steel. If you're going to paint it afterwards, you'll need to use their tie-coat primer, since POR-15 dries so hard that you'd almost never be able to sand it enough to give conventional primer to stick to it.

If you're low-bucking the job though, you can topcoat the POR-15 with rattlecan paint while the it's still tacky and not have to worry about their tiecoat primer.

cool thanks keith, i'll probably just por-15 then rattle can it. my step-dad wants to get it sandblasted then powder coated but i don't think the trailer is worth that cost.

Believe it or not, powdercoating would actually be about the same price as POR-15, by the time you're done. I got my truck frame, radiator support, tranny crossmember, front springs, I-beams and radius arms powdercoated...plus all the suspension components for my '67 442, for a total bill of only $222.

If you have access to someone who can handle it, definitely go for the powdercoating.

wow, i thought it was more expensive than that. i may look into it then.
