dipstick tube is a fountain

Post by Fake Name »

Due to a foolish mistake on my part yesterday (I won't tell you) I had to push my truck with the engine off into a parking spot. The hood was up at the time, and the nice guy who stopped to help me push noticed the power steering was pushing large amounts of fluid from the dipstick tube when I turned the wheel.

Any ideas?

oh- 1970 F250.

thanks.

:hmm: A dipstick with a rubber seal would help? Sorry couldn't resist. My pump was spitting back up a while back, couldn't figure out why but I just added some more fluid and it healed itself. Could be air in the system or a maybe a pump going bad? How does it steer?

What is this foolish untold mistake? No gas?

if the engine wasnt running it is normal, b/c when you turn the steering wheel it moves the fulid through the pump and lines but if the pump isnt moving than it wont move the fulid to the other side, so it over fills the the resivor and comes out there. just refill it and try to keep it running when you go to turn the wheel.( j/k) but there souldnt be n e thing wrong. at work when we have to push vehicles in the shop they all do that espically the 6.0 deisels since we push them in a lot. that is my 2 cents

Ah, now see...it's pick on the nooby day. :(

I'm going to assume you came up with that question due to your long history and experience of foolish mistakes. At least I have the advantage of my noobishness!

And, for your information, there was PLENTY of gas in the truck.

Just not in the tank from which I was trying to draw fuel. And that &*^$@#@##$ switch on the dash didn't help, either. Stupid Fords.
Oh, yeah. :x That funny valve. Huh. How about that. Forgot for a sec. I was just testing you. Huh. Ok, well lets go. Better cancel the tow truck.

DOH!

 excuse #1- a blonde moment excuse #2- a senior moment if neither 1 or 2 apply blame it on the planetary influences (example the relationship of mars and jupiter just as uranus was opposing the moon) or some such bs- but under no circumstances accept the blame for anything involving mechanical contrivances.

there are 2 kinds of trucks- those that are broke and those that are fixin' to break

Well, it's a bit personal, you perhaps it was uranus opposing the moon. Mine never does!
