I have a question?

Post by Big D's 69 »

1970 was the first year for chromed column shifter levers and turn signal levers on the steering column. Prior to that both were painted.

I just saw this Did you Know? My 69 has a chrome column shift and a painted turn signal arm. I am almost positive that the guy before me installed teh power steering. Is there any way to find out what year column I have. I guess someone changed the turn signal lever or the arm. Just wanted to know if there is a way to find out and do some more research. Trying to learn as much as possible.

Does the t/s switch wiring plug match the dash harness? You could look at the t/s switch wiring on the column to see if the original part # tag is still there...

I haven't looked. I will look sometime to see. I do know that it is an early column cause it doesn't have the housing around the shift indicator. It just has a clear lense.

All the '67-'72 shift indicators are plain. They didn't put a housing around that until the '73 models. I'd say that since the previous owner installed the PS, he simply used a '70-'72 column and then screwed his original turn signal lever into it.

That is what I was saying. I knew that it was a 67-72 column because of the indicator housing. I never knew about the chrome levers until yesterday. The things a man can learn by listening.
