Okay, I’m not skimpy at least when it comes to buying tools. I have tools around here that may see use once every five years or so. I have some that I have forgotten that I even own that show up every once in a while. However, I’ve never bothered to get a simple little gasket scraper. Ever since I could turn a wrench I’ve been using screwdrivers, putty knives, utility knives, and razor blade scrapers. Yesterday I was using the latter to clean the valve cover gaskets off the 390 I’m building for my ’69 and after the umpteenth time of the blade shoving itself back into the scraper I gave in to frustration. Today I bought an actual gasket scraper. Difference is night and day. Should have bought one years ago.
You got to have the right stuff, even with small items.

i just replaced my vc gaskets yesterday. what a pain. i almost lost my thumb!

If you have an air compressor with at least a 20+ Gallon tank(the larger the better!).
Buy yourself an angle die grinder and get those Scotch-lok pads and 3" and or 2" applicator.
It'll be one of the best investments you'll ever make...

I finally purchased a gasket scraper when I put the cam in my 00 SS Camaro. Up till then I had just used what ever was handy. I really like the air method with the disc. So much easier but not real good for aluminum if your not careful.
