HI guys big question I m rebuilding a 390 v2 that I got from a mercury marquis 69 for my 69 ranger.
I m ordering a full rebuilding kit all stock except for oversize 0.20 piston. now what I heard is the cam is not the same on the car engine as a truck. the car engine having more hp and less torque. the truck I have is axle 17 if Im right it is 3.25 diff now is that ok or it will be too hard on the engine and result in poor gas millage. now would I be better of installing a truck cam in this engine . is that possible ??
or it will interfer with other component push rod valve or spring or anything else?? not a pro just learning thank you very much
It depends on what your compression ratio will end up being, which depends a lot on which pistons you end up getting as well as which heads you have. A split pattern RV cam would be good, but short duration cams can cause pinging issues if your CR is too high.
Edit: I'm also pretty sure that '68 was the last year for the 390 in the Marquis
