Open or limited slip?
I have my 3rd member out , it is out of a 71' F100 4x4. I have it sitting on my bench because I am installing a powertrax locker in it. The directions say If your vehicle has a limited- slip differential, it will be necessary to purchase a standard differential case assembly, cross pin, retaining pin, and side gear thrust washer for your axle. The tag from my rear dif shows that it is a limited- slip I believe because ...it reads 3L50 9 . 3363a. But how do I tell by looking at the third member ? I have it on the bench and want to know if I can tell if it is limited-slip or not by looking at it? The tag could have been put on by the smart ass kid I bought the truck from years ago. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks

Post a pic or two.
You are doing the 9"? Its kinda hard to tell the differnce between a clutched locker carrier and an open carrier. the detriots are the easiest.
Did you splite the center yet?

re: Open or limited slip?
Very quick way to tell a OEM locker from an open, (on the 9" at least) is the locker will have the bolts countersunk (recess cut) on the spool with 5/8" bolt heads, while the open carrier will have 3/4" bolt heads and a flat surface (no recess) on the spool.
