1988 roller 302 rebuilt to stock specs (E8SE) Hey guys I'm just sharing my plans for my build in hopes to get some advice. Been working on old cars since a kid but I have never Truly done a complete engine build. So give your thoughts on what u think about the build. My ultimate goal is a budget build 302 with mild performance at low and mid range.
88 block stock bore stock 9.0:1 compression
Stock forged steal rods and stock Pistons
Gt40p heads
Crane valve springs 44308-1 (.580 lift)
Assault 1.6 roller tip rockers
E303 cam
Ford racing Roller lifters
Procomp dual plane air gap intake
600cfm edelbrock manual choke carb
Pro billit distributor
Procomp 6AL ignition box
Speedmaster pc91 coil pack
Tremec WC T5 5speed w/stage 2 ECM clutch
4.11:1 gears (9")
Fan delete
SBF 1007-C performance manual fuel pump
Sbf shorty headers 3in outlet
2.5in exhaust
H-pipe
40series flowmasters
295/50r15 tires (26.6 tall)
I'm hoping the loss in low end torque from running an e303 cam can be made up for by the 4.11 gears.

Try this out! http://www.camquest.com/ You can play with various configurations of valves, headers, intakes, cams, etc and see what the HP/Torque will turn out to be. Based on Comp cam specs. It's a lot of fun to play with and totally free.

Re: My 302 budget build
I have built several 302's. Did a lot of road racing engines back in the day. The GT-40P heads require a specific header so beware. Not any 289/302 header will bolt up due to the spark plug angle. The last 302 I built made 400hp / 365ft lbs on 9:1 and ran 12.05's in a T5 mustang. Was a little more high end than what you are building. I went with AFR 185 outlaw heads, single plane manifold and a barry grant demon 650 with downleg boosters.I had a custom grind from comp. Just a heads up, comp has ford steel cam blanks in stock and can grind you a custom cam for 65.00 more than what you can buy that E303 for. Well worth it in my opinion. That 114 lobe separation is EFI specific and will not yield as much HP/TQ . That being said, I have had great results form the B303 or cranes compucam 2040. Crane also sells a full roller rocker for pedestal mount heads. Even has a ford PN. They used them on the 93' cobra mustangs. I will tell you that cam and cylinder heads are EVERYTHING in a SBF. The little 302's can make 1.5hp per cube on pump gas with the right parts!
