Replacing Wheels

Post by windhamdw »

Thinking about/need to see about replacing my wheels and wanted to see what everyone thinks.

I have attached a pic of the Truck with the current wheels that are on the truck painted black, I really dont like the these wheels that much but they get me down the road.

I sort of like the Steel wheels and could paint them red to match some of the trim that is read also and they come with new tires for $450.

All the other wheels are roughly $300 and need tires.

.......I'm partial to steelies with dog dish caps - went with that on mine with stock caps except I changed the rears to 15x8's with a bigger tire......this photo was before I went back to the stock size rims and tires on the front......just my :2cents: ........ :D

Not on my truck but on my '64 Fairlane, I painted the original steel wheels the same as the body color, Wimbledon White and added chrome Baby Moon hubcaps. Really set the car off! I've also really liked the aluminum 5 slot mags especially on a truck.

If you like polishing aluminium the slots are timeless . That style might take a shank style lug nut.

The other choice look good cleaned up, more tough looking.

The steelies with caps look like a 1960 ish type and they may hit the caliper, if you have disc brakes.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those.

I can’t really see what is on it.

You can get steelies from Summit pretty reasonable, admittedly you’ll have to find lugs and hubcaps...

I like the steel wheels you posted but they look pre-bump and I its hard to picture on the pictured truck...

I like the slot type mags, but those are going to be a ton of work to clean up unless you plan to just paint them...

I think Ohiotinkerer is on the right track...

Of course there is always American racing...

Like Ohiotinkerer, I like the dog dish caps on steel rims. I just went with this look on my wheels (also pic in my build thread):

Yeah, no offense intended but I see why you want to change those... :D

I’m also not really a fan of the red but to each his own, the whole wheel red could work though...

How wide are those steelies, if they will fit they could work ...

I really think these trucks look best with wider wheel on the rear than the front... 7 and 8 or 7 and 9 could work...

red wheels have been played out for years. steel wheels painted gloss black will never go out of style.

I think white would look good as well... though played or not I think red wheels look good in certain situations as do body color, it just depends on what look you are going for...
