428 SCJ Engine Advice

Hey there, I've got a basket case 428SCJ block, pistons, crank only 6 good rods (2 bent) up for sale...MAYBE
What I mean is that this is a true Super Cobra Jet block with the proper markings and all
Bored .060 over sonic tested and has "more meat on the cylinders than most std bore 390's" according to my machinist
I was going to build it and stuff it into my 71 F250 but started to realize that these engines are rare.
Is there any interest in this? Should I just build it and stuff it in the F250?

Mixed feelings about it. There's probably a Cobra Jet Fairlane or Mustang owner wishing he could find one. The racers have built better stuff. I'd advertise it locally and see if you can make enough off it's bones to build a nice 390 or 460. If not, build it and enjoy it.

No such thing as a true SCJ with proper markings
The plain jane 428 the CJ and the SCJ ALL used the same block

The only thing that makes it a SCJ is the rotating assembly
1UA crank ...Lemans rods with short head bolts......Hatchet spacer.....Flywheel....Cast Pistons

I want to know how you bent 2 LeMans rods as they are tough

A .060 block is used up ...If it has been run at .060 it probably needs a fresh bore and hone
Pistons them become the problem since they will have to be custom ordered

Without the sonic numbers in hand it is a crap shoot

I seriously doubt that being at .060 over it has .160 or more left on the cylinder walls

Is the cost of the block plus the expense of bore .....hone....line hone ....decking....oil mods.....crank turn and polish...Rod resizing....New custom pistons.....2 rods.......Balancing.....The block crank and rods would have to be priced cheap to make it worth while

Have checked with Barry Robotnick (Godfather of FE's)

Post up the sonic sheet..It should have 16 numbers surrounding each cylinder

worn out block with a standard -standard crank

So you already have pistons to fit the block at .060

You need 2 capscrew lemans rods

No mention of having the hatchet spacer...All FE dampners will work as they are all neutral balanced

No mention of which edel intake

Edel and BBM heads are designed after the medium riser heads not the cj heads ...Except the BBM heads have an improved chamber...The edel also can be had with 2 different valve spacings

It is still a crap shoot without the sonic numbers
