speakers
has anyone here replaced their original am only speaker with lmc's dual speaker setup? 67 with the original radio. theres a place in Tennessee that will rebuild the am radio and add fm to it. neat deal on youtube about it. just thinking about ideas. not sure if I want them in the door or not....

Re: speakers
I had this set-up for a while. Not the greatest sounding speakers but better than the original

Re: speakers
I bought a replacement speaker for the dash that is very similar to the original, and matches the impedance of the factory AM radio, which I am still using. The company is Electo-Tech, and the speaker is made in Minnesota.

Re: speakers
You can also use 2 x 3.5" speakers, and mount them MDF. I detailed this in my build thread. Won't blow the doors off, but significantly better than factory. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: speakers
I bought some factory door panels of course with speaker holes cut in them. they are black, pickup is blue. just ordered some off white lmc panels to see how they look. probably not going to cut up the new lmc's.

Re: speakers
That's what I did for a temporary solution until I got my already cut door panels done....built a small plywood box with a pair of 3 1/2 Pioneers mounted in them......made it the same depth as the stock speaker and cut out a small square to mount on the bottom so I could use the stock AM speaker bracket to hold it in place. Unfortunately all the photos I had got erased but if I take it back out when I hook up the door speakers I'll post a thread on it with the dimensions in case anyone else needs a simple solution...........Bullitt74 wrote:You can also use 2 x 3.5" speakers, and mount them MDF. Re: speakers
thanks
someone cut the holes and did a good job making them the same on both sides for 6 inch speakers that i have already bought.
i can always paint the panels, but black against blue dont look too bad.

Re: speakers
I agree a lot of nice cars came out with blue exteriors and black interiors. If you go with a smaller speaker in your dash try using plastic cutting boards from Walmart as an adapter. Holds up better than mdf. High end stereo shops use this type in doors to prevent moisture damage. Just an option.67 short box wrote:thanks

I was also thinking about using these folks for conversion http://www.joesclassiccarradio.com/conv.html.

Re: speakers
I thought about doing that, but just couldn't bring myself to cut holes in my doors. The 71-72 years with the AM/FM option used 4x10's with the '69 Mustang speaker grille from factory. Use pics from the original brochures to get the location dialled in.RangerRat wrote:4 x 10's fit nice in the factory location at the bottom of the door's

Re: speakers
If anyone decides to put them in the factory location be sure to remove the door panel so you can see inside. The best i can remember there is a brace or something at the forward part of the door. You don't want to cut through that. If i can relearn how to post pics I'll post one of mine with speakers installed. I know what you mean about cutting the doors. But it looks very factory. Sounds good. And I just can't bring myself to cut holes in the door panels to put speakers there.

That's when you do what I did and find a set someone has already cut and store away the good ones....
