Hey guys,
Im glad to be part of this forum, as I have been reading numerous articles over the past few weeks. My mother bought the 69' F250 in 1971, and it has been in my family since. As a kid I remember going camping with the truck, and riding with my mom as she would tow horse trailers to and from her horse shows. It was the first vehicle I learned how to drive, around the ranch, and I would later drive it around and do huge smokey burnouts with the power of the 390 in it. Recently, she told me she wanted to give me the truck as she knew I would get it back on the road. With that being said, I am going through the entire truck in the next few months, and am planning on doing the following:
- Complete rebuild of the FE 390, including stroking it, going with aluminum heads, nice carb/ intake, etc.
- Bullet-proofing the factory C6 tranny, or buying an already built tranny from one of a few online transmission specialist companies.
- Re-wiring the entire truck, thinking about going with the kit from "painless", not sure yet.
- Rebuilding the Factory Dana 60 rearend, ditching the stock 3.54 gears for something a little larger, installing LSD.
- New brakelines, brakes all around, etc.
- Complete rebuild of all suspension components. (This is the one thing I am stuck on, as I cannot seem to find a company that sells an entire front end rebuild kit for my make/ model.
Anyways, Im looking to drop the rearend a couple of inches to level the truck out, as well as soften the rear suspension so I can get this thing to transfer some weight to the rear tires when I stuff the gas pedal. If anybody has any advice for me I would love to hear it.
Thanks guys
