For a practical daily driver I wouldn't go bigger than a 4 inch lift and 33 inch tires maybe 35-36 if they weren't too wide.
Personally I like around a 2 inch leveling spring up front and 31 inch tires, but I am getting a" little" older.
If the truck you get doesn't have disc brakes '76-'79 F150 will bolt in, get the '78-9 steering components
Then get the poly bushings
If you go with a big lift you'll need a drop Pitman arm and tracking bracket.
Another thing you can do is get a '76-'79 chassis and put your body on it.
You'll get power steering , disc brakes and a two speed transfer case.
But you'll have to deal with a 2 inch longer wheelbase.
