re: building center console,
I had two center consoles made. One my Uncle made me for my 65 f-100, which I don’t own anymore and one I did myself for my 68. My uncle's console is very nice due to the fact that he refinishes antiques, mine on the other hand is more functional and not nearly as classy. I read your post and thought I’d chime in AND run out and take pictures since I had my console out and was fix’n to put it back in and thought I’d take some pics of it…..however, my camera took a poop. So I won’t put my console in until I can show you the step-by-step version with pics. I can tell you that I made it to come apart on one side to keep people from just looking in and pulling it out……they’ll have to have a little time to do that. I made it because I have such an unblemished old truck and I didn’t want to cut up anything to have a modern stereo and I didn’t want it in the glove box. It’s all self-contained and has speakers in each side on the hump……because I didn’t want to cut the door panels either. Stay tune, if you care, I’ll post some pics this week......if i can figure how to do that, I'm new to all this.

re: building center console,
If I were you, I would go for buckets and a console that stretches from the dash to the rear of the cab. If it is even possible, try to tuck the front the console up under the dash or even build a set of radii into the console were it meets the dash. At least that way it has a fluid looking flow from dash to console. You could still do this to the console if you keep the bench. Just my 2 cents worth
People that put "Proud To Be American" bumper stickers on their Import cars REALLY irritate me.

Last fall I was seriously considering buying this 64(?) Thunderbird parts car and retroing the interior into my pickup. It had that stretch type center console and would have looked awesome. If I wouldn't have already bought the seats and such that i had, I would have probably gone for it.
Bumpless for now...

re: building center console,
The reason I went with the big bulky eye sore is that it keeps my truck in its original form and I can take it out at any time with little to no effort. I know it isn’t pretty......just trying to give you guys some ideas. I didn't want to cut holes in ANYTHING so in a few years when I'm tired......more tired that now, I can sell it and maybe make a little money. It’s always on the block if the right wallet comes around…….hey JD send some pics of your dogs, I have a Catahoula also.

re: building center console,
I just thought I'd drop an idea/suggestion on you guys. Styrofoam. Glue blocks of foam together to get the overall size you want, trim with a knife (making any neat curves and such that cardboard doesnt like to do), then cover with fiberglass sand and paint. A buddy of mine did a 72 monte carlo . He ran it from the front dash between the seats and all the way up to the rear speaker shelf. looks killer.
