68 F250 color code question

Post by Lambo »

Hello all. Coming to you from Central Illinois as first time user. Just purchased a 68 F250 Highboy with a flatbed and dual rear wheels, an unusual combination in my opinion and what drew me to the truck. My question is about paint color. Door tag is J which according to data on this site is Rangoon Red. Mine has obviously been repainted on exterior to a red/silver combo, but interior is a greenish/robin egg blue color. I thought perhaps cab had been replaced, but door tag SN matches the number on the frame. So it appears the cab and frame are matched. I remember the green/bluish color from back in the day on these pickups so I am trying to figure out why it is this way. Looks to me like the greenish blue color is factory as I see it under the repaint and is on firewall, etc. Is it possible for the door tag color code to be wrong?

:wel: from Georgia! It's unusual for anyone to go to the trouble of swapping door tags when replacing body parts. Doors are also usually some of the first parts to rust out along the bottom. I would lean toward somebody probably replaced the door separately from the cab.

Thanks for your reply. I thought about the door swap, but the door tag vin matches the frame vin, so unless the tag was swapped, and like you I doubt that, it appears original door tag to truck. Sure is puzzling with what appears to be stock color being different from code on tag.

It could be possible that someone took her down to bare metal at some point and repainted from there. This would remove the original paint, but often the tags get removed too unless this is done by a professional.
