Anybody Know What This Is?

This in the door jam of a 72 XLT I just purchased. Never seen anything like it.

Its a sensor for the emissions control I believe 72 was the first year of it. Somebody may know better I think its a Temperature Sensor.

Seriously? That's interesting. What would it control? There is no egr system or smog pump.

You got me to thinking about the emission stuff. So I thought to look at the wiring diagrams in the technical section. It's called a Thermal Sensor for the Distributor Modulator System. But I have no idea what that is.

I don't think anyone else does either, most trucks I've loked at no longer have it. Or any emmision controls for that matter.

Is there anything on the backside of it? If so, was anything done to the truck cab? Could be emission sensor or early lo-jack nti-theft system unless nothing is attached to the back.
