Previous owner at some point removed the wood bed and all the parts and pieces. Laid down long (what looks like stainless) hat sections lengthwise (front to back). Then got a piece of sheet steel cut to size, laid it down on top of the hat sections and tacked it at random around the perimeter.
I want to pull it out and put wood in but I do not want to have to take this all the way down and put all new bed parts in. Bed is solid and rust free. The conversion was well done I just dont like it. I've thought about rustproofing the sheet steel and then screwing down flooring right on top. I don't care if I match original, I'd just like a wood floor. The other idea was to remove the sheet and put my wood the wrong way (across the bed) screwing it to the hat sections. However I really don't know how the bed goes together and what holds it together. Third option is do a Rhino lining or something like that on the steel and call it a day.
Looking for ideas and suggestions.

Re: 68 Stepside with steel floor in bed
Check underneath the hat sections there should be some metal channel running perpendicular to the frame. They should vary in height according to where they are on the frame. If you have those all you need is the wood and stainless hold downs. I'm on my phone or I'd post a link to the page that shows how the bed goes together. Check out the LMC catalog for wood kits and I think you'll find a diagram that will help.
