Re: bumpside pitting
R+R or weld repair. Heavy pitting where the metal pinches together is impossible to do a long term repair on. This is why nice beds are so dang expensive and also why I have a flatbed dually.

Re: bumpside pitting
I have managed to get my seams pretty well sealed up. I don't have a regular bed but my stepside bed does have seams on it down low and the cab and hood seams.
I cleaned out the rust scale very thoroughly with a broken hacksaw blade, ripping away at the rust with the teeth of the blade. I got it as deep as I could til it was as clean as I could get it and then started filling the seam with brown Rusty Metal Primer (Rustoleum).
I let dry and kept filling with multiple coats of Rusty metal primer until the seam was pretty well filled in with the stuff. Overpainted with my color coat and they have stayed sealed up pretty good.
It worked for me here in WA.
