Cab Back Panel Molding

Post by grantorinosport »

So I had my in-cab fuel tank out yesterday, and decided to remove the cab back molding to clean, etc.

When I removed the two corner pieces (on the driver side, this is the chrome piece right above the filler neck), I noticed that there was a "rubber" seal/gasket/o-ring that went around the two studs which penetrated the cab. Predictably they just crumbled away.

Is there a replacement for them? I assume it may just be some generic rubber washer or whatever, but where would I find such a thing? I know several people have reinstalled their trim on stellar looking vehicles, so this must be a common problem.

I see LMC sells the corner pieces (and the aluminum strip that runs the back) brand new with mounting hardware, but it doesn't specifically state it comes with the seal.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

NAPA sells strip caulk for this purpose. It's tar based, 1/4" strips that you pinch off what you need a wrap it around the stud where it goes through the body. It works pretty good and one box of 25' will last a lifetime at 1/2' long per stud. It's usually kept near the bodywork stuff on the shelves.

Funny thing, I actually have some of that stuff in my garage already I had when I was doing the AC unit in my Gran Torino. Just did not put it all together that it was for trim use also.

I took out and reinstalled the heat box in the f250 and used it yesterday for the heater core penetrations into the engine compartment.

Great stuff!

Yep, I was looking for mine so I can install my dentside inner fenders and it's MIA. From all the mice poop I found on the shelves they probably ate it...
