Diy infared heat lamp

Anyone made their own, looking to warm up metal to paint and dry
1971 F250 Camper Special, family owned since 1972
1983 Cherokee, last of the big ones, bought in Italy, family owned since 1998
1965 Corvair Corsa Convertible, 140 engine, 4 speed.

How hot do you need it to be? If you need to keep it above 65 where you are try hanging some plastic from the ceiling and put an electric heater on the floor away from the plastic.

Back in the old days, body shops would mount a bunch of infra red heat lamps to a board.
and had different switches for bulb combinations.

Those bulbs are pretty pricey these days.
I've done small areas with a space heater.

And you have to be careful, I've tried to dry primer ,and bubbled my bondo off the panel.

I built this booth in my basement so I could paint small parts during the winter 6' x 6' x 7'. It has a roll up door, plastic stapled to a 2x2. I hang my parts, roll the door down, turn the heater on medium-high, set the thermostat, and leave it there overnight. I have a thermometer in there and it's usually about 75* in the morning. Then the next day, I take the heater out, spray my parts, let the booth exhaust, then put the heater back in and close the door again for a few hours. Has worked really well for me.
