I've seen some nice trucks but why do they do this????

Post by dablack00 »

I've seen some really nice trucks that go for big bucks, but it seems like no one whats to take the time to remove the firewall windshield washer line and the rubber oval seal. Everyone just paints right over them. Whats up w/ that? Sorry I have no idea how to do a link so just copy and paste the crap below. This truck went for 10k and it is very nice, but the firewall looks like crap!

I've always thought the firewall looked better in body color anyways but painting over the rubber like that is just plain gross. Those Ranger emblems on the box look good but didn't they change them to the blockier style in 70? I guess we always have to find something to complain about, don't we :)

Damn mike, good eye!

The trim is all wrong for a Ranger plus it has the wrong year "Ranger" emblems. Trim is correct for a Sport Custom. Door panels aren't right either.

Man I totally missed all that!

As long as we're nitpicking.... :P

1) It's also got the '68-'69 style of windshield washer resevoir
2) the chrome wrap-around trim at the base of the windshield was only available on two-tone paint jobs.
3) the large tailgate emblem/trim has been cleaned up and repainted, except that they forgot to trim the perimeter in black, like in this picture taken from the Body Trim & Insignias page:

Yeah I noticed that too! Also, the tailgate has all that extra trim which is '69 and below. I gave up looking for more because there's too many things wrong with it, a lot more than just nitpicking. :)

You know, aside from that Earl Scheib firewall, that is one beautiful truck. The only things I'd do to it would be door panels, wood grain cluster, and maybe a/c. Never had any love for the wide chrome on the newer Rangers anyways. All he seems to be claiming is fairly low original miles as far as I can see.

Yeah you're right, it's not a restoration. He just threw a bunch of parts at it. A very nice job of combining the best of the years but for me the paint color would get old fast. Did he chrome plate the grille? Would love to get that early washer jug, I shattered mine leaning on it. :x

Even though the truck is not technically correct, it still looks 'darn' good! It's a shame they got so close to really doing it right. I asked the seller about the mount rubbers and they only replaced the radiator supports. But most folks out there are going to be smitten just because it looks so good on the driveway.

I wonder what the other color was on the 2 tone? The seat and dash are the exact same on my Mallard/Seafoam green combination.

BTW, the truck didn't meet reserve...he wants $12.5K for it.

My eyes must be getting bad,I see the black firewall, but I can't make out where anything rubber is also painted black....

The body does have the Sport Custom trim...He said 90% of the chrome is new,I guess it wouldn't hurt to throw in some Ranger emblems while he was at it...I don't think any used title would distinguish what trim package truck it is...

Either way,I wouldn't be too hard on the guy...He kept it period correct....I don't know if you can get reman. Ranger(or Sport Custom for that matter)door panels...Same with the seat cover--the one in it is the same that came with my S/C and I think that's the only one available aftermarket...The carpet should also have a matching piece that covers that black firewall cover...It would be interesting to know how much $$$ he spent on the truck...

BTW,aren't those rims from a '90's F-150?....I had a '93,that had rims a lot like that...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

I can see everybody's points on this............the thing that bugs me the most in this regard is when you see a truck all done up real nice and then you get to the pic of the engine compartment and it looks like it sat in a lake for 30 years.
I can see some departures from bone stock appearance but geez,ya gotta at least clean it up some.Just my 2 cents.

Man you guys are hot on it. That was a good looking truck. I really wanted to lower mine and do some trick stuff but the more I look at some of these more original style trucks the Ford really look good close to stock.
