Yucatan Gold pics?

Post by gaertner_jan »

Hey Folks,

The truck we're working on is a 1968 Explorer Special with Yucatan Gold as original Paint. I have a few questions about that color and would appreciate any help!

1. Does anybody have a PPG / Ditzler color code for Yucatan Gold?
2. Does anybody have pictures of a truck in that color?
3. Would the interior (glove box, ashtray, other painted surfaces) also have been Yucatan Gold?

I'm really not sure I want to go the Yucatan Gold route yet so convince me =)

thanks! J

Google search https://www.google.com/search?q=yucatan ... 47#imgrc=_ I feel the top right and 2nd row center pics are closest to what I remember old Ford trucks looking like According to this, it's 22395 http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedi ... tan%20Gold which the sample looks more like the photos I'm talking about.

Hi Randy,

Thanks for the info. I have pictures of the 68 Explorer Special Brochures but its hard to make out details such as the interior paint. What's strange about our truck is that there are hardly any traces of a gold color left. Instead it appears the truck left the factory beige and was then re-sprayed as a Yucatan Gold Explorer Special?!

Age does some strange things to color. Most original trucks I've seen were the same color inside and out.

Well I know UV light can do strange and ugly things to paint but its the spots that have more or less never seen sunlight that get me scratching my head.... Such as under the dash area, behind installed wiring for instance. It has no shimmer or glitter of gold. It just looks flat beige or meadowlark yellow perhaps.

In any case thanks for the paint code. I'll see if I cant get a sample mixed up in order to make a few decisions...
