Body removal question

Post by luke-ao »

Can the cab and front end of a F100 be removed as one unit? Wiring and brake lines are a non issue, all that is getting reworked anyway.

It could. The weight balance would be iffy. Do you have a lift?

I built several areas in my shop ceiling that can handle 2 Tons (engineered even), that should do it. :)

I think the biggest problem will be supporting the front structure while balancing the weight. There are so many scenarios of this in my head and none of them turn out well. Why don't you want to separate the front clip from the cab?

:yt: With the radiator support bolts removed, that nose is going to want to drop and swing side to side. That could really mess up your inner and outer fenders. Having removed my cab, I can honestly say that it is the most unbalanced thing I have ever attempted. I swear that thing does not have a center of gravity.

The hurdles of the lift are not what concerns me as much as the assembly as a whole maintaining its integrity for removal and reinstalling. The cab and front clip needs to come off and reset a few times before complete dis-assembly for mods, repairs and painting. If it's sturdy enough to remove it as a single unit it will save me a ton of time.

Rigging wont be an issue. 4 lift points, 2 ropes (or chains) a spreader bar between the two ropes, lift from the point that balances the load. Set it on a custom made dolly to move as needed. That is if the assembly is ridged enough. ;)
