Back to forum....69 F250 4x4 project
Son changed his mind and didn't want the 70 we were working on. Years later, and a divorce later, I found me another project. Had lots of old trucks, and working on them is kind of therapy. I like the stock look, but will go for a few new improvements. My new one is a 1969 F250, 4x4 longbed, maybe a camper special, def a highboy. It's a 1 owner (found a ticket under the seat from 2-69 for running a red light in owner's name), and has about 59,000 original miles (really). I'll find the right forum to show progress and ask questions, but will see if I can put some pics up. Hasn't run in years, no clue why. No rust except for under battery. No dings, dents, or repaints. After getting home and cleaning up, very happy. Seat belts still behind seat in factory plastic, never used. interior cleaned up great. Exterior covered in tree sap and some patina. 2 flats on rear, and shredded rear tires, brake drums semi-locked up, but will move. 360 h. asn't cranked yet. Replaced battery, solenoid, and starter. Headlights, tail lights, brake lights, even license light, still work. Horn honks. In dash, high beam indicators and high beam indicator workm but nothing else. No radio, no fan, no wipers. After replacing solonoid battery and starter, checking oil, etc., tried cranking. I get 1 click, then everything dies, horn, lights, etc. until unhooking and rehooking battery, then all stuff that works, works, till turning to start, then click and nothing. Thanks in advance for any help./ Going to get new cables in next couple days, and double check all grounds.

Re: Back to forum....69 F250 4x4 project
Old Blue lives!!! Bought new battery cables, sanded all connections and tightened em down. Cranks nicely. Then dribbled a little go juice down the carb (fuel line disconnected to drain tank) and fired on the second try. Will run till out of gas in carb. Finished draining tank (no gunk or chunks) just old gas, about 7 gallons. Will get new fuel line, clamps, filter, and some starter fluid to keep it running till the fuel line primes, and hope for the best.

Ala-damn-bama. First song I learned on guitar was Sweet Home Alabama. Thanks. Carb was locked up, throttle and choke, but freed it up, and am ready to hook it all up, stand by with fire extinguisher, and see what happens, but extremely pleased with results so far.

Re: Back to forum....69 F250 4x4 project
Had my girls this weekend. They didn't want to wrench, but wanted to wash and scrub. Amazingly there's paint under all that tree sap. Carb going to get rebuilt by a buddy soon. Decided to go ahead and do that before hooking up fuel lines. Tank drained, and nothing but old gas came out, about 8 gallons. Here's results from my girl's elbow grease.

Re: Back to forum....69 F250 4x4 project
Not much to report. Spent last week with my folks, helping out. Mom has cancer and dad had a hip replacement, so they needed some help. I did drain the oil for a couple days, flushed radiator, replaced bottom hose, but having trouble finding top hose. 1 3/4" at radiator and 2" at thermostat housing. Refilled oil and some rad fluid 50/50. Tried to free up heater control line, and did right before it broke. Then had some rad fluid dripping from control valve, guessing it's bad now. Carb was going to be rebuilt, but had issues (stripped threads on a couple of things, so getting a rebuilt, hope to have this weekend. I need a heater control cable and heater control valve. Going to replace heater hoses and attempt to flush heater core. No book or manual available, so feel free to offer tips on that. Looking for a couple of radio bezels too. One good one for stock, and one that's not perfect in case I need to trim it. I have a new, never used am/fm/8-track that will fit in the dash without cutting dash.
Thanks y'all.
Thanks y'all.

Re: Back to forum....69 F250 4x4 project
Finally got a good carb on, and have changed all hoses, fluids, filters, etc. Hooked everything up and had daughter turn key while I sprayed go juice down carb, sputtered and popped and ran long enough to get gas up through new lines and filters to carb. had to keep it running by hand a bit then let go and she idles nice. After killing it and having a round of high fives with the daughter, hopped in the cab and turn the key, and she starts right up and idles nice. Even discovered that after all these years of sitting, the fuel gauge, temp gauge, and oil pressure gauge work. Not sure about alt gauge, it just points to middle bottom no matter what. So now on to freeing up rear brake drums and finding decent 16.5 tires for rollers so I can check out transmission and transfer case, but expecting those to go well, as this truck is in great shape and was well cared for until parked under a tree.

Re: Back to forum....69 F250 4x4 project
Thought I had updated this. old Blue is doing great. Runs and moves under it's own power for first time in years. Was told rear brake drums were locked up. Nope, stuck in 4L. Got her up on 16"wagon wheels and some small but sufficient tires. Having some issues finding the sweet spot for 2H in transfer case, but finally got her to roll good without cluncking, and front driveshaft turns freely. Going to drain and fill front and rear pumpkin, t-case, and tranny tomorrow with 80/90. If I can get brakes to attempt to work, maybe I'll get her out on the county road to try to get everything lubed up.
