New Guy with 1973 F100 PU 302 project

Post by InsaneScout »

Ladies and Gents,
I am new to the forum and look forward to working with many of you on our favorite subject. But in case you want to know a little more about me, here we go.

Currently live in the Killeen, TX (Fort Hood, TX) area. I am a career Soldier and have two more years until I retire. I enjoy all things outdoors. I can weld but have no pedigree in it.

And here is my reason for finding this forum.....

I have a 1973 F100 pu with a 302. I cannot get it to start via the key. It does run when I jump the solenoid but the solenoid is new. I get no power to any gauges or headlights or any lights in the cockpit of any kind. I have found the fusible link but it does feel solid. Looking for any tips on whats going on. I am mechanically inclined but by no means a mechanic.
Sincerely,
Cory

The cab is fed by about a 12g black wire with a yellow stripe. Look for it at the starter solenoid. Among other things, it provides the power to your ignition switch.

Fordification.com provides wiring diagrams. A 73 will be pretty much like a 72 so I'd use that as the basis for troubleshooting - at least the start and lighting circuits.
