Back in the Bumpside - Rome, GA
Hey Ya'll, I am proud to say that I am once again the proud owner of a bumpside. A beautiful 1971 F100 Custom Sport!
I've owned a few F100s and a 68 F250. Each one was going to be a Father/Son project for my dad and I and never panned out. I sold my last 72 F100 SWB for a down payment on my house...and lost my dad to cancer less than a year after that. Fast-foward a few years, I've got my own 7 year old, and am in a much more stable place and able to have my own Father/Son project, but this time as the father! He loves the truck (as does the 2 year old brother who already cries "I Wanna go Daddy Tuck" !!!
This will be a "In memory of PawPaw" project as well. Although, it won't be much of a project, I'm leaving the "survivor" body as is. I'll clean up the rust on the bump, to stop the growth, and clear coat in a satin or matte, but the body is in too good of shape (all original paint, no dents).
Currently has a 302 from an 80 Mustang (Electronic Ign), with a 485 cam, great sounding thump. C6 was rebuilt by AAMCO and the 9in seems to have about a 389 (just a guess). Only problem is, it had 0 oil pressure when I picked it up (was slap out of oil) and from the sounds of it, has been out of oil for quite some time. Lower bearings and connector pins put up quite a racket when cruising above 50mph. Still worth the trade, so I drove it 4.5hrs home @ 55mph. Drove it to work tonight..just a bangin and a tappin!
Found a wrecked Explorer an hour away with the 5.0L GT40heads, & 4OD. $600 ...I'm thinking you can't go wrong with that. Maybe port the heads before I drop it in, add a mild cam, and go with it. Who knows, I may just have the lower end rebuilt, or find a 302 block and swap everything over. 4OD sounds really nice though.
