N00bie first project '67 F250 Camper Special
Hello,
First off let me say thank you to the folks of this forum. It's an invaluable resource for new guys like me.
So to introduce myself...
My name is James. I'm a Custom Knife maker and Blacksmith. Last year after moving I found that I really needed another truck. Luckily my neighbor, a Combat Vet and lifelong wrench head had a buddy that needed some cash and had a truck that would make a great restore project.
It's a 1967 F250 Camper special with 66K original miles and less than 6K miles on a full engine (390 V8) and tranny rebuild (Tree shift automatic with a Dana 60 rear end). Got it for $1500 which leaves me some room for restoration and upgrades. My wife gave me the go-ahead and an open budget.
While I know how to turn a wrench, I'm far from a real mechanic and my knowledge is limited. I'll have the help of my neighbor and some of the stuff i want to do may seem out of reach for a noobie but I appreciate the wealth of info and experience here.
I plan on asking for a lot of advice and tips on where to source what I need.
So far what we've accomplished...
Gas tank restoration, including a new sending unit(Not original, we had to find a compatable sending unit and custom bend the tube before socking it), sealer coating, rock/road guard and lines. The behind the seat tank has been removed and scrapped.
Engine flush
New filters (oil, air, feul)
New plugs (E3's)
New cap and rotor, plus wires
Synthetic oil
New cover gaskets
New Battery
Planned -
Steam clean/Pressure clean engine & compartment
Transmission flush, Seals & Filter
New Heater core
New U joints & drive shaft balance
New headers & exhaust (Suggested ceramic lined)
Investigate rear end ratio & possibly rebuild to a more fuel economic ratio
New Fuel pump (Modern type to ensure proper PSI & flow to the Edelbrock 4 barrel carb.)
New steering column, steering wheel, bezels & levers
Convert to Power steering (Going to need a lot of help on this one! will need Steering box, pulley, resivoir, pump brackets, hoses & bolts)
Convert to 4 wheel disc brakes, new lines and new master cylinder
Install running boards or pipe step.
New wheel mounting studs, lugnuts & tires
Replace signal lights with LED types (Check wiring looms, repair or replace)
Replace headlights with LED or Halogen
Rebuild/replace window wiper system
Replace front grill & headlight Bezels
Replace Front lower undergrill body piece
Refinish front chrome grill
Mount class III hitch & wire for trailer (I know the heavy step bumper will already accommodate a ball hitch but this is a convenience thing)
New dash top & cover
New sound mat & rubber floor
3 point seat belts
Seat padding & cover kit
New headliner, rearview mirror & Sunshades
New pedal pads
Seal rubber for back window, seal rubber and replacement front windshield.
Replace Side mirrors
Replace guides, rubber & trim for doors
Replace door hardware
Replace rubber stoppers/bumpers
Blast to remove surface rust,Blast tool box (replace locks), fix 4 minor dents, Mig fill and sand old mounting holes, prep for paint
Paint in 2 tone color scheme (Dark denim blue with metal flake/Linen white), paint toolbox.
Coat bed with Rhino/Tuff liner.
Fabricate in bed mount for spare tire & jack.
Install toolbox.
Install stereo system, CB, antennae & 100 DB P.A.
I'm saving all the original badging but am thinking of not replacing the body trim due to cost and doing the paint transition with pinstriping instead.
I'd appreciate any/all suggestions, advice, constructive criticism or pointers

Welcome aboard! Sounds like quite a project you have planned there. Should be a really nice truck once it's done.
As far as the class III hitch goes, this is the one I put on my '69 Camper Special, Frodo:

Amazon has it, but if I recall correctly I found mine at Wal-Mart.

Here's a brief run down of the install:

It wasn't too hard to put on, just had to drill two new 1/2 holes. I've been very happy with it. I recommend it.
