Need braces

Post by fuzzier1 »

Keith (or anybody else that might be able to help) I see that you are pulling some beds apart and I need the braces right in front of the wheel wells. My SWB is missing them and I was wondering if the ones you pulled off of any the beds you have are useable? If so let me know.

The ones I have are pretty much worthless. The supports on the '67 bed were totally rusted out, as well as the front ones on the '72 bed. I'm going to have to fabricate something similar to use for the front. I'll probably cut a piece of square stock down so it's more of a channel and then just bend it to the right shape.

Here's what they look like. There should be one of these braces in each of the four corners of your box, which extend from the flat bed-floor piece in each corner down to the lower lip of the bedsides. It's just an anti-rattle brace, and they tend to rust out where they're welded to the bed floor:

I now know why I don't have them then.

That front brace would be located in the middle of my saddle tank then.

Yeah, if you have the outside-the-frame tank, then that front sidewall support would have been cut out to make room. If the tank was dealer-installed, then some other form of support should have been constructed, but if it was installed by a previous owner than it's possible it was just left as-is.
