Reverse light's / Neutral safety switch question

Post by Ozark Tim »

I recently purchased a nice 72 F-100 Explorer, and I have no experiance with this particular model truck.
The reverse lights did not work, so I investigated only to find the switch on the steering column modified with a paper clip so that the switch wasnt keeping the truck from starting. The switch appears good, but there must be something missing or broken off of the column that actuated the switch. This is of course an automatic transmission.
Is this something that anyone could lend me some advice on?
Thanks, Tim :hmm:

I believe I am in the same predicament with my 1969 F100 SWB truck. I have had a helluva time fixing what was broke and "rigged" by the previous owner.

My truck actually had a plug where the neutral safety switch plugged into ( I assume from a manual transmission truck) so I purchased a neutral safety switch, but for the life of me cannot find what is supposed to engage the switch/lever on the column.

Could someone post a picture of their column with the switch engagement piece included?

Thanks,
Patrick
