lets talk rattle can interior paint jobs

Post by kmcypress »

I've read a few threads on the subject but I wanted to get some opinions.

I've currently got a Wimbledon White interior on my 69. It's pretty beat up but I don't really want to get it professionally done or buy a spray gun. With that said, I want to paint the interior the same color. I wanted to get your opinions/tips on how the job should be done.

I'm currently using the Duplicolor base coat, Wimbledon White paint, as well as their Clear/Top Coat http://tinyurl.com/q989ec8 http://tinyurl.com/nyt7zfp

I've done some test runs with the door panels pulled off and those little cans hold much more paint than I thought! and when warmed in some water, it sprays pretty darn good! I haven't tried the clear yet.

I plan on laying down 5-6 coats on the interior, and then about 5-6 gloss coats. And from what I've been reading, people recommend waiting a week or two, finish with a 2,000 light, even wet sand and buffing out as necessary.

Just looking for guidance on the topic. Any pictures that people have are welcomed.

I have seen a two part clear in a rattle can before at the paint store. Never used it but the gloss would have to be better. But you have use it or lose it after activating.

I think it would be OK to use what you want . As always there is more time in prepping to paint just so the new paint would adhere better and last longer. Painting is the easy part, prepping takes forever. Good luck what ever you choose to do and post some pics.
