Original Ranger?

Post by atcaw94 »

I've got a 68 I think was a Ranger originally, until the dumb kid I bought it from pulled all the trim off.
He said he thought it was a ranger before, but said he liked a "plain" truck with no trim.... :?
There's "Ranger" on the glovebox, and you can see where he didn't fill the trim holes real well on the bed.
Also you can see where there used to be trim around the windshield.
I'm in the middle of trying to fix this thing back up and would like to put it back as a Ranger if that's what it was.
Been there done that with built motors and hot rods, just want a nice, clean 68. It's got a 302 and C4, so that's good enough.
I know the trim is big time expensive, but......

Yours sounds like it was a Ranger to me, I'm sure others here could verify by other components you may/may not have (I'm not an expert)

I checked my '67 Ford truck shop manual and oddly enough, of all the designations it has on it's charts, "Ranger" isn't listed anywhere in regards to decoding the door identification plate (driver door jamb area).

I have a '67 Ranger currently, so I am curious myself now, IS there a designation somewhere on the vehicle coding system that would indicate "officially" that a truck is a Ranger?

Also, did these have a VIN on the dash? My truck has an aftermarket dash cover permanently attached and i'm not sure if it's covering a VIN # or if they just weren't putting VIN #'s on the dash of truck then?

I found a 67 ranger in the salvage yard that is repairable. How rare we're these in 67?

Rangers also had a skinny piece of trim that went around the dash. If taken off it will leave holes.
