North Idaho Newbie with '71 F100
Hello there,
I bought my truck a few weeks ago, joined this forum, and have been lurking and reading and learning since then. Figured it's time to introduce myself and my bump before I start bugging you all with questions.
I'm new to Fords but not to old vehicles -- have had a couple old Dodges before as well as a couple old British roadsters, but most of my wrenching has been on old motorcycles (mostly Triumphs, with an odd Norton and Ducati and BSA thrown in for good measure, as well as some more modern bikes as well).
I bought the F100 mostly to haul dirtbikes and pull a popup camper. The truck is a pretty well preserved unrestored original and I intend to keep it that way, but will of course be making repairs where necessary and minor improvements where they make sense. From reading the "popular upgrade" threads I can already see that I'm probably going to add a wiper delay and I'm seriously considering headers because that driver's side exhaust manifold is a sad piece of work in terms of flow.
I"ve never really been one for naming my vehicles -- it just doesn't come naturally to me. I tend to just refer to them by the model or year or color. But the previous owner of this truck, who actually got a bit weepy-eyed during the sale because he was so sad to see her go, told me he called her Dirty Gertie. I don't know if the name will stick but it just might.
Well, that's about it. Here's a picture. And I'll be seeing you over in the engine forum shortly...
