Hi from NC

Post by mustang68 ranger71 »

I have a 71 F100 camper special with a 390. It has factory power steering, factory air, and a C6 auto. This is a truck that belonged to my dad when I was just a kid back in the mid 90's. and before you start doing the math I am only 25. I have already restored a 68 Mustang which was my first car and I still have and will never sale. Well back to the project at hand. this truck was owned by my dad for about 10 years and then sold to another family member who had all intentions of restoring it but due to certain circumstances never got around to it. Well about 3 years ago I was given the opportunity to get it back and I did. I brought the truck up from Florida to my parents house in GA. I finally have it back and the years have been less than kind to it. It's aged about like Catherine back it you get my drift. The truck runs great but the body is rough. I just got to start working on it last week on account of just being able to get it up to NC from GA. their are some things on this truck that are a little different than the mustang. I guess that was about the tie ford started doing some changing and added some stuff like evap canisters and such. I have several questions but I will not dump them all on yaw at once.

My first and lost pressing question at the moment is trans fluid. I know originally this truck ran Type F just like my mustang, but when my dad rebuilt the truck he had the trans re built and a shift kit installed in the mid 90s. I'm not sure if these newer clutches and shift kit still will run Type F or will it now be Mercon? I do not want to ruin the trans.
Thank you any one who can help.

Don't know the answer your transmission fluid question. There is a "Drivetrain" section for this forum. Ask you're question there and I'm positive you'll get a quick response. :D
