Rear bumper - II - LMC part
Off and on I have been looking to replace the bulky rear bumper on my 69 F100 LWB with something less substantial. I should be focusing my bucks and time on getting the 71 F100 a new engine and transmission, but I am easily taken off target.
Salvage, pick-and-pulls are not real convenient to my location and the few times of late I have made the 65-75 mile trek to the closest one, I have yielded no decent results.
Has anyone tried the "primer" rear bumper from LMC? If so, any comment on value/quality?

Yep, same here. Bumper is not terribly priced. Mounting brackets are spendy. Looks like altogether, minus shipping, about $180. Carpenter has a chrome step bumper - $550 or so. Could only find a painted/primed bumper there for the flareside.

If you need a rear bumper to paint, I've got a one with a few dings and some peeling chrome you can have.

Got any pictures you would like to share? Have never removed chrome. Heard it can be pretty challenging.

Sanding or sandblasting should get primer/paint to stick.

Those sport bumpers can be had off of vans too. Yes the bracket spacing is wider. But the bumper isnt. Just shim a plate on each outside of frame to mount the brackets and bumper.

If appearance is not a significant concern, Econoline vans and some big Broncos were also equipped with contour bumpers. And if it is a primered/painted bumper, then weld closed the holes, drill new holes and file then square to fit whatever brackets that will be used. Removing chrome requires high strength acids... grinding will simply not do it.

Don't need to remove the nickel to paint. Chrome is only about .005 mils (.000005"), doesn't seem like much of of a match for 2.5 mill 180 grit. Then you into nickel which takes more effort because it's 10 times thicker and some are confused and think they're still sanding chrome. Just offering a free bumper before is goes to the scrap yard.
