Hood hinge mounting

Post by DIXONBOY »

For some reaon my search is not working so forgive me if its been said before. The nutserts for the mounting of my hood hinges are spinning in the sheet medal where it mounts to the cab. What it the best way to fix it. I thought about putting in a bolt from the back side and pushing a retaning washer on it kinda like what brake rotors have on them. Then mount the hindge.
P.S. I sold my 67 and now have a 65 so its been a while since I have been on here.

FYI: they're not nutserts, they're caged nuts....the 'cage' is a small piece of sheetmetal bent to hold the nut in place. If the cage holding the nuts is allowing the nuts to spin, it's very possible they've rusted away enough that they're no longer grabbing the nut....and you'll just have to reach up from under the truck and remove them completely, and then use a bolt and nut to secure the hinges.

Not sure about the '65's though. Probably going to have to cut the head off to expose the problem. The original style U nuts and fender bolts are still available from body shop suppliers. Cost me around $50 to install new hardware on my cab and front clip. Worth every penny.

If memory serves me pretty much every bolt on the front end is 5/16-18.

Pb blaster and keep trying to work them. If tjat doesnt work then id take them off remove springs and try to get them to move. I might even give them a safe hit with a hammer. In a closing fashion. Maybe tap on the pivot points first.
