Seam on the Bump?

Post by SevNT2Bump »

Does anybody else have a seam on the top part of the Bump between the upper and lower panels on the bed? It appears that there is a hard caulking between the upper panel and the top of the bump on my bed. This same caulking is between the rear side of the bed and the rear panel that the tail light and side marker are located. Is it supposed to be there or was this put there by a PO when they painted it? When I look at some pics of other trucks, sometimes it there and sometimes it's not.

It's ther ( and falling out) on the 3 bumps I have. I do believe it's ford's way of smoothing things over

Some choose to weld theirs up. Looks good that way but a lot of work.

The seam sealer is oem ford. It was put in there before painting. Some people have welded the seam. Others have used new sealer. Some sealer can shrink after it dries. I think that sealer is the type you put on after painting. They still make the 3m oem sealer.

Thank you. It was hard to tell with it buried under 5 coats of paint and half of it falling out. I'm just going to dig out the stuff on the bed and leave it at that. It's not a show truck. Maybe the next truck I'll weld up. :D Thanks again!

Here are some pics of my 4wd. You can see the spots where the seam sealer had fallen out and rusted the bed below the seam. http://s80.photobucket.com/user/forman1 ... 3.jpg.html

I love photobucket. It offers framed prints, canvas wraps, or metal prints of your rusted primed seam. Just what I was looking to print and put up on my wall. :)
